Norwich Sex Worker - Unsolved Murder

Image
Who Killed Michelle Bettles This is the first in a series of articles reviewing the unsolved murders of sex workers in Norfolk and Suffolk, England. I will be looking at the mysterious killings and some of the reasons why these young women lost their lives and who may have been responsible 22-year-old Michelle Bettles was the third prostitute to disappear from Norwich's red-light district and be found murdered  Michelle Bettles was a sex worker plying her trade on the streets of Norwich, England in the early hours of Friday 29th March 2002, when she suddenly disappeared.  She failed to keep a pre-arranged appointment in the Dereham Road area of Norwich with a regular client. This was very unusual for Michelle, who regularly kept to arrangements and met her punters promptly. On this occasion, it seems that Michelle did not even intend to keep the appointment as she was last seen heading in completely the opposite direction to where she was supposed to meet. Michelle was ...

Re-investigation of Three Middlesborough Murders

Image
The Unsolved Murders of Three Women Are To Be Reviewed Vicky Glass, Rachel Wilson and Donna Keogh all disappeared between 1998 and 2002  These three young women all went missing from Middlesborough, England in unexplained circumstances. The bodies of Rachel Wilson and Vicky glass were later found but Donna Keogh remains a missing person. There has never been an identified link officially established between the three disappearances but, it does seem likely that there is possibly a connection, all three cases have been treated as murder. Assistant Chief Constable of Cleveland police, Jason Harwin said "There is a commonality between the cases through the ages and sex of the victims and all being linked geographically to Middlesborough". He did not elaborate as to whether he considers any further link such as the same perpetrator. Cleveland police have launched an in-depth review in which all three cases will be thoroughly re-investigated. The force has been granted 3.77 millio...

Is There A Serial Killer On The Prowl?

A Serial Killer or Coincidental Murder-Suicides? Seems likely that several elderly couples may have fallen victim to a serial killer There are at least three different police forces in The UK that believe they may be seeking a serial killer in connection with the violent deaths of five elderly couples in Northern England. A special investigation team has been set up by police to re-investigate a series of deaths that were originally believed to have been murder-suicides in Manchester, Cheshire and Cumbria. Stephanie Davies, a senior member of the coroner’s office in Cheshire has compiled a one-hundred-and-seventy-nine page secret report looking at the five murder-suicides in which she suggests that actually the killings were murder, plain and simple and in fact were most likely the work of a serial killer. The senior coroner says that there are “striking similarities” between the deaths of five couples between 1996 and 2011. In all five of the cases, it was originally said that t...

The Case of The Tortured Teenager

Image
Notorious murder case re-opened in 2016 Who really tortured and killed this 14-year-old lad in 1979? The case of Alan Livesey was re-opened by Lancashire Police in 2016 despite his mother Margaret having been convicted of torturing and murdering him at their home in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire UK on February 22nd 1979. The teenager was found stabbed and bound at his home in The Crescent but the truth about who was really responsible for his torturous death has been shrouded by suspicion and debated widely ever since. Margaret Livesey was convicted of murder at Preston Crown Court in July 1979 and was sentenced to life imprisonment but maintained her innocence until her death from throat cancer in 2001, aged 64. Margaret was released from HM Prison Styal in 1989 with a lifetime licence to The Probation Service and went to live near to her daughter Janet in Surrey. Neither Margaret nor the family ever gave up the fight for the truth to be told about Alan, she even left a clause in he...

Has This Baffling Murder Case Been Solved? Murdered doctor's faithful dog guarded her body until she was found On November 9th 1966 a doctor from North Road, Amersham, Helen Davidson decided to take her wire-haired terrier and a pair of binoculars and do some bird watching, sadly she was never to return home as the next day her body was found in Hodgemoor Wood she had been viciously murdered.  It took a 12-hour long search using dogs and 100 army soldiers to find the doctor, her dog was laying across her legs in order to protect her until she was found. The doctor's Hillman car had been found in the early hours of the morning of November 10th, 1966 parked in a lay-by on the road between Beaconsfield and Amersham but it took several more hours until 2pm that afternoon before her body was found about a half-mile into the woodland. The wood was somewhere that the 49-year-old doctor visited regularly with her dog. It was a horseshoe-shaped area of approximately 300 acres, so qui...

A Strange & Unsolved Mystery From Yorkshire This case has baffled many minds for almost 40 years A small headstone simply inscribed with the number 4601 marks the final resting place of an unknown female whose skeletal remains were found near to Sutton Bank in Yorkshire on Friday, August 28th 1981 after an anonymous phone call was made to the Thirsk Police. The male caller who refused to give any details saying that he could not reveal his identity due to matters of "National Security" gave the police an almost exact location for a badly decomposed body. The description of the location was "A lay-by on an unclassified road leading from Sutton Bank towards the villages of Scawton and Rievaulx" During the phone call, the man said "Near Scawton Moor House you will find a decomposed body among the willow herbs"  The road where the lay-by is located is in a rural location and used mainly by local people and caravanners on route to a nearby campsite. The sur...
