Unsolved Murder of Lisa Hession
Horrific Cold Case Murder Review
Someone knows who killed schoolgirl Lisa Hession
The night of December 8th, 1984 saw the murder of a schoolgirl in a cold dark alleyway in Leigh, Greater Manchester.
A friend of the murdered teenager believes that the killer may well have been a male who was literally infatuated with Lisa, yet some 36 years on, the murder remains unsolved.
It is a very strange case as according to witnesses Lisa's killer was almost certainly known to her and is thought to have been stalking her.
According to Lisa's friend's she was a beautiful girl with a tomboy side, a girl who stood her ground and a good friend to have in life, so how was this keen gymnast and cross country runner killed and why?
On the night in question, an 14-year-old Lisa Hession had been to an early Christmas party and was most likely followed on her walk home. Her life was cruelly taken behind the gates of a house just 200 yards from home. She had been strangled with her tee-shirt, whilst her mouth was covered and she had been sexually assaulted.
Lisa's lifeless body was found slumped against the rear gates of a house by a dog walker and his 13-year-old son at 11:55 pm. The area was made up of well kept semi-detached family houses and is still pretty much unchanged 36 years on.
It seems that the lead suspect was actually interviewed within a few days of the murder but he was released on bail, without charge and eventually passed away in 2005. This is only rumour of the neighbourhood but does seem quite likely to be the truth, at least according to Lisa's best friend Andrea Aldred she believes that the killer was a "perverted brute that took her life".
Andrea said that even after all the years that have passed she knows in her heart that Lisa was murdered because she had rejected the advances of a male when he started coming on too strong. The rejection led to him wanting her more than ever in his mind and eventually the infatuation ended in Lisa being killed.
It seems Lisa did not give up without a fight and may even have run from her assailant as her umbrella was found in the alley but her earrings were found elsewhere. She had heavy bruising to her face and grazing to her legs, surely the killer must also have had injuries why was this not picked up at the time?
14-year-old Lisa Hession was found in an alleyway, she had been sexually assaulted and strangled with her own stripey tee-shirt
On the night in question there were two parties arranged and Lisa had unfortunately told a lot of people which one she was going to, this of course would have given the killer a heads up.
According to her friends lisa was not the sort of girl to go along a dark alleyway without real reason or possibly with someone that she trusted. I can't help but wonder whether she met a male at the party or afterwards and they went to the alley for what Lisa innocently assumed to be a kiss and cuddle but turned out to the male wanted more and when she said "no" he sexually assaulted her, then killed her in order that she would not be able to tell what had happened.
Clearly someone knows what happened on that December night and has given the killer a good alibi that has lasted some thirty-six years.
I agree absolutely with Martin Bottomley, the head of Greater Manchester's Cold case Unit, when he says that the murderer almost certainly knew the local area well and probably lived on the estate himself.
Martin Bottomley said "My gut instinct is that the person who murdered lisa must have been local, must have known the area really well in order to know that the back alley existed that would afford him a degree of seclusion. This case will never be closed and a £50,000 reward remains for information that leads to the identification and conviction of the killer".
Since the technology came available a partial DNA profile of the offender has been established and according to Mr Bottomely that would be good enough for a direct comparison if and when a name for the assailant comes up.
Sadly Lisa's mother died in 2016, aged 69 after a battle with cancer so she never got to see justice for her daughter. She never got to be a grandmother or even a mother-in-law as lisa's life was cruelly snatched away at such a young age.
I know that the family feel the same way that I do in that someone in the estate where Lisa grew up and lost her life knew who was responsible for her murder, the person with that knowledge is just as guilty as the killer in many ways.
In 2011 Greater Manchester Police used the partial DNA sample that was recovered to swab all men in Leigh and Wigan but no one was identified, so it is fair to say that the person either managed to avoid the swabbing, has left the area or is dead. To be fair if he is still alive then he must have avoided arrest all these years.
In my opinion it would be good for the family to know who was responsible for taking Lisa's life that night, even if the killer is dead.
